Independent Stationers Awarded U.S. Communities School Supplies Contract

Indianapolis, IN – October 22, 2013—Independent Stationers, the industry’s most progressive independent dealer group and the leader in providing value-added programs and services to its members, announced that it was awarded an exclusive contract to provide school supplies and teaching aids to the 55,000+ U.S. Communities participants throughout the United States. As the only supplier to be awarded this contract, the agreement is estimated to generate purchases of $50 million annually for the certified independent dealer participants in the Independent Stationers network. Purchases through the new contract will be primarily sourced through Educators Resource, the largest wholesale distributor of supplemental teaching materials in the United States.

Independent Stationers has more than eleven years of experience implementing, administering and managing multi-million dollar national accounts as a contract holder of the U.S. Communities Office Supply contract and through the federal government with its General Services Administration (GSA) Multiple Award Schedule, the Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative (FSSI) Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA), the Army BPA, as well as numerous private sector national accounts contracts with the goal of providing exemplary service to the end-users who are the ultimate consumers of its members’ products and services.

This exclusive contract was awarded through a competitive solicitation process conducted by lead public agency Prince William County Schools – the second largest school district in Virginia. “We are pleased to announce the contract award for Educational Resources, Classroom, Art Supplies and Related Products and Services to Independent Stationers, Inc.” said a spokesperson for the purchasing office of Prince William County Schools. “PWCS is excited about the great value that this contract will provide to schools across the country.”

“The Independent Stationers dealer network provides a great opportunity for us to offer a national solution to sourcing school supplies, art supplies and teaching aids to the thousands of public and private schools registered through U.S. Communities, while providing the schools with a locally-owned dealer so they can purchase from a business in their own community,” said Kevin France, Vice President of National Accounts for Independent Stationers.  “Being awarded this contract fulfills an important part of our plan to expand Independent Stationers’ U.S. Communities program. Although it was not a criteria in the award process, it is our belief that being able to offer a one-stop shopping experience, with national consistency, enables us to provide public agencies with a complete solution for both office products and school supplies.”
